today was one of those days that i managed to stay home the whole day without going out of the house at all. leads one to be reflective i guess.
during lunch unexpectedly the topic of whether the gep programme is beneficial or not came up, seeing as the gep programme will go extinct within a decade. my brother being a gep alumni thoroughly defended the programme, claiming that students were smarter there and were taught more in that. in essence, because of the programme, there has already been a segregation of people within a society since primary school. the strong get stronger, the weak get weaker. makes perfect sense if we happen to be in a world where survival of the fittest were the only rule of this game. but isnt it sad to segregate from young? right from the very beginning of our conscious lives, we are being led to believe that some of us are better than the others. there is a difference in levels of intelligence, capacity to learn, different learning curves etc. why cant those people decide for themselves instead of a flawed education system. to be branded as not able to learn as fast as the others, many a student have indeed done a self fulfilling prophecy.
